Panzi Hospital

Panzi Hospital was founded in 1999 by its current Director and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Dr. Denis Mukwege.  Located in Bukavu, its mission is to assure holistic and quality care through improved health care services, community outreach activities, as well as advocacy initiatives.  Since opening its doors, the hospital has expanded its services to include departments for obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, surgery and internal medicine. As the only hospital in the Ibanda Health Zone, it accepts patients from throughout the eastern DRC and has become renown for its treatment of survivors of sexual violence.  The hospital is one of the few places that offers treatment for women suffering from severe gynaecological conditions, such as obstetric fistulas.
